David Caird

1945 - 2016 LANESBORO Dave Caird, age 70, of Summer Street, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2016 at home. He was born in Pittsfield on December 12, 1945, the son of the late David W. and Virginia L. Cox Caird. He was educated in Pittsfield schools, and graduated from Mount Greylock High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he attended and received his Bachelor's Degree from the UMASS-Amherst. Dave remained in the US Naval Reserves, committed to working with the MIA/POW efforts, retiring as a Commander after 26 years of service. Dave had worked for the Massachusetts Division of Employment Security for several years; General Electric Company, and lastly, was self-employed as a Human Resource consultant, retiring in 2011. His many consultant assignments took him all over the world, including Italy, Hungary, and the Philippines. He was a member of the Berkshire County Navy League and the British Car Club. He loved travelling the "back roads and highways" in the 1978 Triumph convertible he and his grandsons restored. One of his greatest pleasures was sharing his home, The Caird Inn, with family and friends. Many picnics, graduations, and family celebrations were held in his Lanesboro homestead. His constant guidance and support will be greatly missed by his children and grandsons. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Carol J. (Zahn) Caird; his two step-children: Michelle L.
