1937-2013 NORTH ADAMS David Joseph Polumbo, 76, of 102 Harding Ave., a longtime local businessman, died peacefully on Sunday October 20, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in North Adams on October 4, 1937 a son of the late John and Yvonne (Senay) Polumbo. He attended schools in North Adams and graduated from St. Joseph High School. He also attended North Adams State College. He was a veteran of the Air Force stationed in Scotland. Mr. Polumbo was the owner and operator of Sun Cleaners on River St. in North Adams for many years. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and lector. He also served on the City of North Adams Board of Health and coached Little League Baseball in North Adams for 13 years. He loved to cook, bake and tell jokes and enjoyed his get a ways to Lake George and wintering in Florida. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriot fan. Survivors include his wife, Isobel (Williamson) Polumbo whom he married June 18, 1960 in Scotland; two daughters, Leslie Polumbo and her fiance Chester Potash of North Adams and Sharon Davignon and her husband Jason of North Adams; two sons, Scott Polumbo and his wife Donna of Salem, N.H. and Gary Polumbo and his wife Rebecca of North Adams; eight grandchildren, Dina Rocha, McKenzie Hebert, Mitchell Anderson, Emma Polumbo, Joshua Polumbo, Zachary Davignon, Sarah Polumbo and Tanner Davignon; one great-grandson, Jacob Rocha; one brother, Gerald Polumbo of Pittsfield; and six sisters, Mary LaGrotteria of Pittsfield, Phyllis Peirce of Dalton, Francis Patenaude, Joan Desnoyers, Barbara Carle' of East Hanover, N.J. and Madelaine Baker of Dalton. He was predeceased by three brothers, Richard Polumbo, Robert Polumbo and John Polumbo Jr.; and three sisters, Beatrice Polumbo, Patricia McCloskey and Helen Jones. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church in North Adams. Burial will follow with military honors in Southview Cemetery.
