Ripley Jr.

David Arthur Ripley Jr., 61 of Great Barrington, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at home. He was the beloved husband of Renee Harvitt and loving father to their son Craig David and daughter, Linda Joy.Born in Carlisle, Pa.., he was the oldest son of Edna Mae (Ferguson) and the Late Reverend David A. Ripley. He is survived by his sister Doris Anderman and her husband Mark of Oriole, Pa.., sister Denise Ripley and her husband Ken Gober of Killeen, Texas, brother Don Ripley and his wife Cindy of Smithfield, R.I., and sister Dawn Wiley and her husband Kevin of Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Mother in law Lily Harvitt of Chatham, N.Y., father in law Ed Harvitt of Watchung, N.J., brother in laws, Eric Harvitt and his wife Patty of Warren, N.J., and Dan Harvitt and his wife Liz Willner of Piedmont, Calif. In addition he leaves his nieces and nephews Cara Anderman of Sanford, Maine, Devin Burns and her husband Kyle of Rochester, N.Y., Kristen Ripley and her wife Tina Taylor of Medford, Mass., Heather Ripley of Greene, Maine, Benjamin, Jacob & Samantha Harvitt of Warren, N.J., & Mia & Zoe Harvitt of Piedmont, Calif.

David was a devoted father. He was creative, gentle, caring and spiritual and was dedicated to the happiness of his family and many friends. He loved engaging in arts and crafts projects of his own and with Craig and Linda. He was an avid reader who also loved music, especially The Grand Slambovians who he just recently saw at the Guthrie Center. David had a wonderful sense of humor and a great smile. All who had the pleasure to know him loved him. David graduated with a BA in English from Rhode Island College, cum laude. He graduated from the New England School of Acupuncture where he met his wife Renee.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial celebration of his life to be held at The Guthrie Center (www.guthriecenter.org), 2 Van Deusenville Road, Great Barrington, MA 01230 on Friday, September 7th at 2 p.m. Please dress to your level of comfort -- T-shirts welcome.

Renee requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either of the charities that David & Renee had asked for donations for at their wedding, Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity or the Berkshire Humane Society.
