David A. Smith 1951-2012 SIERRA VISTA, ARIZ. David A. Smith, formerly of Sheffield, Mass., passed away on March 4, 2012, in Sierra Vista, Ariz., where he had been a resident since the mid-1990s. Born April 11, 1951, David grew up in Mill River, Mass., and was educated in local schools. He graduated in 1969 from Mount Everett Regional School and worked at Custom Extrusion Inc. in Sheffield and later for the Consolidated Rail Corp. (Conrail), ultimately becoming a railroad engineer. David later operated his own painting business in Sheffield and worked in construction while living in Sharon, Connecticut, prior to moving to Arizona. In Arizona, he continued to work in construction and most recently was employed installing and maintaining air conditioning systems. David was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants, loved helping his friends and neighbors, and enjoyed visiting the ocean whenever possible. David's survivors include his four children: David and wife Nancy, of New Marlborough, Mass.; Hans, of St. Louis, Missouri; Patrick, of Hatfield, Mass., and Becky Wilkinson and husband Keith, also of New Marlborough. He is also survived by his siblings: William Smith and his wife Linda, of North Franklin, Conn.; Mary Barton, of Lakeville, Conn.; Edward Smith and his wife Catherine, of Weymouth, Mass.; Thomas Smith and his wife Sylvia, of Windham, Maine; and Mitchell Smith, of Rogersville, Tenn. David is also survived by his two grandchildren, Charlotte and Liam Smith, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his late parents, Edward J. Smith and Mary (Ullman) Smith, David was predeceased by his brother Peter and brother-in-law Richard Barton. Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
