David I. Zuckerman 1930 - 2012 PITTSFIELD David Israel Zuckerman died peacefully Friday evening, May 25, 2012, at his home in Pittsfield, surrounded by his family and beloved dog, Blackie. David was born in 1930 in New York City to Rose Feingold Zuckerman and Stanley Zuckerman. He attended the Bronx High School of Science and graduated from City College of New York. He married Susan Budnick Zuckerman in 1976. He taught elementary school in the South Bronx for more than three decades. He and Susan retired to the Berkshires in 1999 after spending more than 20 summers there. He was very active in the local Jewish community, was an associate of Berkshire Hills Hadassah, former board member of the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires, and active in Knesset Israel Synagogue. David served with the Air Force and later was a member of the Air Force Reserves. He was also a member of the Louis Green Post #140 Jewish War Veterans U.S.A. He is survived by his wife, Susan, his daughter Rachel Zuckerman of New York City, and her partner, Christopher Peifer, his son Seth Zuckerman, also of New York City, his daughter-in-law Chikako Inoue Zuckerman, and his granddaughter Naomi Inoue Zuckerman, who was his pride and joy. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be held Tuesday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at Knesset Israel Synagogue, 16 Colt Rd., with Rabbi David Weiner, Spiritual Leader, officiating, immediately followed by burial at Knesset Israel Cemetery. A meal of consolation will follow at Knesset Israel Synagogue. The family will receive friends during Shiva at 85 Doreen Street, Pittsfield, MA on Tuesday, May 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, May 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, May 31, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, June 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Knesset Israel Synagogue, 16 Colt Road, Pittsfield, MA or the Berkshire Humane Society, 214 Barker Road, Pittsfield, MA.
