Desmond W. Plant

1921 - 2012 PITTSFIELD - Desmond Whitcomb Plant, 91, died Sunday at Mt. Greylock Extended care surrounded by his loving family.

Denny was born in Dalton, N.H., on January 9, 1921, the son of Maurice and Hazel (Whitcomb) Plant. He attended schools in Littleton, N.H., and graduated in 1939, and later graduated in 1941 from Wentworth Institute where he studied Electrical Construction. Denny was employed in the transformer department of General Electric Co. for over 41 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the Quarter Century Club, a member of the Pittsfield Golden Seniors and the Quadrille Square Dance Club. In his retirement Denny enjoyed bowling, golfing, square dancing, bingo and he was an avid traveler. He especially liked to go camping and fishing.

Denny was predeceased by his loving wife Yvonne LaTulip of 63 years in 2006. They were married in May 2, 1942.

He also leaves behind his three daughters: Elaine Filiault and her husband, Arthur, Diana Filiault and her husband, Edward both of Pittsfield, and Linda MacWhinnie and her husband, Daniel of Lanesboro. He also leaves his son, John Plant and his fiancee, Linda King of Lenox. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Denise Brown and her husband, Stephen of Westfield, Melissa Leab and her husband, Robert of Hancock, Daniel MacWhinnie, Jr. and his wife, Laura of Lanesboro and Michael Filiault and his companion, Jennifer Macha of Willimantic, Conn., Theresa Flynn and her husband, Charles of Pittsfield, Edward Filiault and his wife, Joni of Bonita Springs, Fla., Mark Filiault and his wife, Kathy of Pittsfield, and Kimberly Herzog and her husband David, of Palmdale, Calif. He will also be missed by his 14 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Denny was predeceased by his brother, Elsdon (Ed) Plant of Dalton.

The family of Desmond would like to thank the staff of Mt. Greylock Extended Care for the care and compassion they have shown to Denny and his family during his stay.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Peter Naranjo, Thursday September 13, 2012 at Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. Calling hours for Denny will be held on Wednesday, September 12, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME 40 Maplewood Ave, Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Denny's Memory to the and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in care of the funeral home.
