Dewey D. Jones, Sr. 1930 - 2011 BENNINGTON, VT Dewey D. Jones, Sr., 81, a resident of Evergreen Drive in Bennington, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Born at the family home in Peru, VT on July 3, 1930, son of the late Frederick and Bertha (Anderson) Jones, he received his education in North Bennington. Dewey married the former Shirley Blake on Jan. 23, 1951. Mrs. Jones predeceased him in September, 2008. For 20 years, Dewey was employed at the Ben Mont Paper Company. He later worked at the Pownal Tannery and Weedens Tannery. After his retirement, he would help his son Dewey Jr. in his business M&D Cooling and Heating. Dewey enjoyed going to Stewarts for coffee and sitting around talking with his son, Dewey Jr., while drinking a Coke. He also enjoyed working on automobiles and spending time with his cherished daughters. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Diane Phelps and Richard of Plainfield, MA, Cindy Hasbany and Robert of Michigan, Ann Marie Miller and Ralph of North Adams, MA, Dewey D. Jones Jr. and Marie of Bennington, Sandra Martin and Thomas of North Adams, MA, Susan Bouldry and Harry of Florida, Wanda Jones of Bennington, Julie Church and Andy of North Adams, MA, and June Sumner and John of Bennington; 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; a brother, Perry Jones of Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dewey was predeceased by a granddaughter, Angelia, in November 2011. He was also predeceased by a brother, Maurice Jones, and two sisters, Dorothy Green and Stella Boone. FUNERAL NOTICE: At the request of Mr. Jones there will be no calling hours or funeral services. The burial will take place at the family lot in the Village Cemetery of Peru, VT at the convenience of the family. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Dewey D. Jones Sr. may be made to the Coalition of the Homeless through the office of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
