Dina Quirk

1922 - 2013 DALTON Dina DiMassimo Quirk, 90, of Union Grove, N.C., died on Friday, April 5, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center lovingly surrounded by her four children.

Born on May 8, 1922, she lived in Dalton and attended local schools. A graduate of Dalton High School, Mrs. Quirk attended Bryant College in Providence, R.I., and received a degree in Executive Secretarial Science in 1941.

She worked as an office manager for E.J. Cramer Construction Company, Berkshire County sales representative for Blue Cross-Blue Shield and a secretary in the personnel department of General Electric Company.

She performed in many plays as a member of the Dalton Players acting company.

She married Eugene Quirk, of Pittsfield, on Dec. 2, 1950. Together for 58 years, they lived in Dalton and Stockbridge, Vero Beach, Fla., Pineville, N.C., and Cranbury, N.J.

In 1977, Mrs. Quirk became the first woman appointed to the Board of Assessors in the Town of Dalton, after serving as assistant assessor for three years and clerk for ten years.

An avid golfer, she achieved a personal goal when she and her partner won the Stockbridge Golf Club Sherwood Cup Tournament in 1979.

In retirement, she and Mr. Quirk lived in Florida and enjoyed 23 years of golf, theater, and friendship with their neighbors in the Vista Royale community. An excellent cook, she enjoyed giving dinner parties featuring Italian specialties. She loved reading, politics, and keeping in contact with family and friends.

She is survived by her four children, John B. Quirk (Marian) of Vienna, Va., Eugene G. Quirk (Carol) of Schuylerville, N.Y., Elisabeth G.Q. Orford (William) of Union Grove, N.C., and Kathleen S.Q. Wasson (Arthur) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, John G. Quirk, Benjamin W. Quirk, Morgan M. Quirk, Kristin Q. Maringola, Colin E. Quirk, Daniel H. Quirk, Heather D. Quirk, Jeffrey M. Orford, Keith W. Orford, Michael A. Wasson and Madeline Q. Wasson; eight great-grand children, Chase, Madison and Lucas Maringola, Angela and Nicholas Orford and Mary, Daniel and Brendan Orford, and her sister, Norma D. Connor of Dania, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband; by her parents, Biagio and Fausta DiMassimo and by her sister, Luisa DiMassimo.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Dina DiMassimo Quirk will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 8:15 a.m. from the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, 489 Main Street, Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours will be FRIDAY, April 19, at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton, from 5 to 7 p.m.
