Donald Bailly Obituary

Donald Arthur Bailly, 80, of Lenox, MA passed away in Olympia, WA on August 3, 2016. Born in Lenox on February 10, 1936, Don was the son of the late August and Catherine (Welch) Bailly.

He was a graduate of Cornell University, a musician with a thirst for the avant guarde and a 1950s Beatnik in New York City who played his saxophone with some of the great jazz legends of his time. Don was also a Private in the U.S. Army and dedicated much of his life to helping troubled children.

In 1999 he retired from Edgewood Center for Children and Families in San Francisco, CA after a 14-year career as a youth services counselor. In 2001 he moved to Olympia, WA where he resided for the past 15 years. He was a member of the Olympia Zen Center and active in his community.

His love of baseball, music, and politics made him a tireless conversationalist. He was a genuine humanitarian whose concern for all people and especially children made him a true ally, advocate and catalyst of change.

Don is survived by three of his six siblings: Christine Petersoli, Donna Rae Roselle, and Richard Bailly, and their families; his sons, Neal (Beth) Bailly, Jacob (Catherine) Bailly, and daughter Hannah Bailly; and his 5 grandchildren, Mac, Brady, Zak, Celeste and Vanessa.

Donald's ashes will be buried in the Bailly family plot at St. Ann's Cemetery in Lenox, MA.

SERVICES: Graveside blessing for Donald and Family will be Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 3 PM.

Don was one of my best friends, and always will be, despite being 50 years my senior. I will always remember the meals and glasses of wine that we shared, our mutual interest in and conversations about music and politics, and his graciousness as a host and friend to a young punk kid.

My deepest condolences to his family.

He shall be deeply missed.
