Donald Raymond Gilbert

1943-2013 WILLIAMSTOWN Mr. Donald Raymond Gilbert, 69 of 108 Berkshire Drive Williamstown, died Friday March 1, 2013 at Williamstown Commons.

He was born in North Adams, on November 21, 1943, son of George J. Gilbert and Mary (DiLorenzo) Gilbert Chalifoux. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Raymond C. Chalifoux. He attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1963. He received a bachelor's degree in history from Notre Dame University and later received a bachelor's degree in education from North Adams State College and a master's degree in creative arts from Lesley College.

Donald began his teaching career at Savoy Elementary School and Clarksburg Elementary School. He was last employed as a teacher at Taconic High School and Reid Middle School in Pittsfield until his retirement in 2005.

He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown and a member of the Williamstown Rotary Club. Donald was a Red Cross first-aid instructor and EMT for over 30 years.

Donald was active in scouting and served as Scoutmaster for Troop #20 at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield since 1979. Before that, he was the Scoutmaster of Troop #70 at St. John's Church in Williamstown. Don enjoyed camping and woodworking.

Survivors include an aunt- Gena Dellaghelfa of Adams and several cousins including Susan Dellaghelfa of Adams. Donald will also be missed by his many friends from Boy Scout Troop #20.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Donald Gilbert will be Wednesday March 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams are Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
