Donald A. McIntyre

1931 - 2016 Mr. Donald A. McIntyre, 84, passed away on Thursday May 19, 2016, at home. Born in Pittsfield on June 27, 1931, son of Neil McIntyre, he attended Crane School and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1949. Mr. McIntyre was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a flight technician. He also served in Vietnam during that time. After his retirement from the Air Force, he became employed by the City of Pittsfield. He worked at the Wastewater Treatment Plant until his retirement after 23 years. Mr. McIntyre also held numerous bartending jobs over the years, including the American Legion, The VFW and the Elks Club. At one time he was also employed as a security guard at Hillcrest Hospital's Detox center. Mr. McIntyre was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9566 having served as Post Commander, District 9 Commander, All State Commander and Quartermaster at differing times throughout his years. He was also a member of the American Legion and past member of the Elks Club. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan and loved attending the races at Saratoga. Mr. McIntyre was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Helen Farrell McIntyre. He leaves his 5 children, Donna McIntyre of Pittsfield, Mike McIntyre and his wife, Brenda of Clay, N.Y., Steve McIntyre and his wife Maureen of Waterford, N.Y., Heidi Maxwell and her husband, Andy of Hellam, PA., and Colleen Kays and her husband Dan of Dalton; three sisters-in-law Geraldine Kelly, Marilyn Viale and her husband, Craig, and Fran Tierney and her husband, Pete; eleven grandchildren, Lindsay, Ryan, Megan, Marinda, and Troy McIntyre, Jake and Molly Maxwell, and Tyler, Alexis, Rachel and Sean Kays; and 2 great-grandchildren, Davion McIntyre and Aiden Oberdorff, along with many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Donald A. McIntyre will be Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 9 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, May 23, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the Dalton VFW Post 9566 in care of the funeral home.
