Donald "Don" E. Rudert

YARMOUTH PORT Donald "Don" E. Rudert, age 90, of Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of Monday, September 19, 2016, with family by his side. Don grew up in South Hadley, MA, and was a stand-out athlete at South Hadley High. Upon graduating he served in the US Navy as a Radio Operator in the South Seas during WWII. Honorably discharged, he was employed briefly by the Granby Telephone and Telegraph Company and the Holyoke Water Power Company. The majority of Don's career was spent as a regional Outside Plant Construction Manager with New England Telephone and Telegraph and he enjoyed sharing stories of those days. Don was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Holyoke, MA, and was active in the St. Paul's Men's Club. Besides following his beloved Bruins, Red Sox and New England Patriots teams, his favorite pastimes were gardening and building intricate model ships, hobbies he continued into his final days. Don was preceded in death by Frances, his loving wife of 62 years, and his brother Frank. He is survived by his devoted sons David of New York, NY, and Jeffrey of Ashland, MA; grandchildren Chandler, Brayden and Kelsey; and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral service will take place Monday, September 26 th at 10:00 AM at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA.
