Dora (Soloveychik) Felber

1916 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
Dora Soloveychik Felber passed away peacefully at 96 years of ages on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in her sleep with her family surrounding her. She never spent even one night in the hospital. She was born on Jan. 30, 1916, in Riga, Latvia.
She had studied music, hoping to become a concert pianist, but the war got in the way of her achieving that goal. Escaping to London in 1938, she narrowly escaped the Holocaust. Her mother and sister were not so lucky.
She supported herself in London by making artificial silk flowers and button jewelry that she sold to Harrods, a famous department store, until she married Isidor Felber in 1943. They married after a three- week courtship and had two children.
They immigrated to the New York City area in 1949 and lived for about 50 years in Great Neck, N.Y. They moved to Lenox in 2002 to be closer to their family, living happily in the Kimball Farms community for the remainder of their lives. Isidor's death six years ago ended their marriage of 62 years
With skills for which she was nicknamed the "commander -in-chief ", she ran, as a volunteer, the Occupational therapy department at Long Island Jewish Hospital for 30 years.
She was known for her joie de vivre, elegance and excellent baking.
She is survived by a son, Michael, living in Port Townsend, Wash., and a daughter, Diana who has two children, one with a grandson in Japan.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The family will hold a graveside service at Ahavath Sholom Cemetery in Great Barrington this Tuesday, the 17, at 11 a.m. with Barbara Cohen officiating.
FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington is caring for the arrangements.
