Doris W. Areno 1933 - 2012 PITTSFIELD Doris W. Areno, 78, of 15 Scammell Ave., Pittsfield, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield. She was born in Pittsfield on Sept. 8, 1933, daughter of Melvin and Edna (Chase) Whitham. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1951 and was employed by the City of Pittsfield in the School Cafeteria Dept., and she retired in 1997. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; she was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and Celtics and enjoyed going to the casinos. Her husband, Joseph R. Areno, died on July 14, 2009, and they were married on July 11, 1953. Survivors include her daughter, Paula Areno Porter, and her husband, Christopher, and her four beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Sara, Lyndsey, and Ryan Porter, all of Pittsfield; her beloved great-granddaughter, Chalyce Jones of Pittsfield, a great-grandson, Chase Jones; a son, Mark, and his family of North Carolina; a sister, Mary Ferreira and her husband, Armando, of Pittsfield; a sister-in-law, Dolores Adler and her husband, Ronald, of Pittsfield, and several nieces and nephews; her two grand dogs, Rocco and Bella, and great-grand dog, Lola. She was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Patricia Hescock. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Doris W. Areno will take place Friday, May 4, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, with the Rev. Judith Jenkins Kohatsu, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to in care of the funeral home.
