Dorothy "Rody" Augenstein Obituary
Dorothy "Rody" Augenstein

1922 - 2015 Dorothy Marie Augenstein, "Rody", died peacefully at home August 28th, 2015. Born in Morgantown, WV on August 23, 1922 to Leora Marie and Paul Rodeheaver, she was raised and educated in Ohio. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Nursing and Health as a member of the Nurse Cadet Corps in 1947 where she met her husband, Manfred W. Augenstein, who was attending the College of Engineering. Rody had a lifelong interest in medicine and kept her RN license active in three states until she was 70 years old. She worked at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY when first married and later volunteered with the Red Cross and Girl Scouts while raising her children. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church for 50 years where she served as Vice President of the Altar Guild for many years. She was very grateful for her professional education and delighted in being a nurse, wife, mother and friend. "Once you met Rody, you had a friend for life". She leaves her children: Paul M. Augenstein (Fran), Paula M. Andrews (Tom), and Dorothy Jo Augenstein; her grandchildren, Kara Morgan (Matt), Rachel and Cheryl Augenstein, David Andrews (Bridget), Kathleen Andrews; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Erin, and Henry Morgan, her brother-in-law, Paul M. Augenstein Jr. (Lois), nieces, Lynn Reeves (Robert), Lisa Clapperton (Steven), and grandniece, Natalie Reeves. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Manfred, and her cherished son, John W. Augenstein. The family wishes to thank all of her very special caregivers from Porchlight Homecare and Hospice Care of Berkshires for their devotion, compassion, and loving care of our beloved "Rody". SERVICES: A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 3p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Smile Train, PO Box 9623, Washington, D.C. 20090-6231, an organization that provides lifesaving surgery to children around the world.
