Dorothy M. Barbieri 1930-2011 HOUSATONIC Dorothy M. Barbieri, 81 of 243 Park St., died Monday December 26, surrounded by her loving family, at Fairview Hospital. She was born in Gill, Mass.on September 2, 1930 daughter of Edward and Mabel Letourneau Abbott. She attended local schools and graduated from the former Searles High School. Dorothy worked for the former Rising Paper Co, as a secretary for Great Barrington Assessor's Office, as a bookkeeper for Barbieri Lumber Co, the former Housatonic Curtain Company, during the mid 90's as a school crossing guard, and was a Ball Room Dancing teacher for the Fred Astaire Studio, competing in competitions in the 70's. She was a member of the Housatonic Congregational Church, and was a church collector; she also worked at all the church suppers. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, hooking rugs, dancing and playing golf. She leaves her husband, Lawrence A. Barbieri, whom she married on February 12, 1955 in Hillsdale, N.Y.; two sons, Frederick of Housatonic, and Arthur and his wife, Dawn, also of Housatonic; two daughters, Nora Babcock and her husband, Ron, of Great Barrington, and Audrey Barbieri, also of Great Barrington; one brother, Edward Abbott Jr, and his wife, Blanche, of Ashley Falls; one sister, Theresa Moore of Housatonic; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Dorothy M. Barbieri who died December 26, will be held on Friday, December 30, at 10 a.m. at the Housatonic Congregational Church with the Reverend Anne Alvord officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery Housatonic. Family will receive friends on Thursday December 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Dorothy's memory may be made to S.B.V.A.S or to the Housatonic Hose Company both in care of the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South Street Great Barrington, MA. 01230.
