Dorothy Newton

1924 - 2015 SPRINGFIELD Dorothy I. Newton, 90, passed away Fri. Feb. 13th. She was born Oct. 7, 1924 to the late Lester and Louisa (Jacobs) Miller. Dorothy was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. She worked as an assembler for many companies in the area. Dorothy at one time worked as an aircraft mechanic in Coffeville, Kan. She loved doing puzzles and crocheting. She used to make afghans for soldiers overseas and would make quilts for her family members. She leaves her son, Steven Newton and his wife, Mary Ann, of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren; her sisters, Virginia Villano, who was her caretaker, of Ludlow, and L. Ruth Brower of Lanesboro, Mass.; her brothers, Douglas Miller of Fla., and Perry Miller of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her daughter, Dorthea C. Newton; her brother, Charles Miller; and her sister, Viola King. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck, Conn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Survival Center, 240 Main St., Indian Orchard, MA 01151. The SAMPSON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of the arrangements.
