Dorothy M. Sweet

1924 - 2015 WILLIAMSTOWN Dorothy M. (Fowler) Sweet, 90, of 510 Henderson Road, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Dorothy was born in Conshohocken, PA on November 7, 1924 to Henry and Ida (Cameron) Fowler. Her family moved to Massachusetts when she was a child and she was educated in the North Adams school system. Dorothy married George M. Sweet of Williamstown on June 22, 1946 in the First Baptist Church in North Adams. Mr. Sweet, a contractor, built their first home on Bridges Road in Williamstown. They resided there until 1959, when they moved to Reseda, CA, returning to retire in Williamstown in 1983, where Mr. Sweet built their home on family property on Henderson Road. Mrs. Sweet retired from the Los Angeles school district. She enjoyed crafts and oil painting and was always willing to teach others any way she could. She was a member of the friendship club, the Jollee Circle, and was a reading buddy at the Harper Center for many years. She was also an active member of the Stamford Community Church. For Dorothy, her family was her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her son, George Richard Sweet in 1992, and her husband of 51 years in 1998. She leaves a daughter, Cheryl Diamond of Williamstown; daughter-in-law, Terrie Sweet of N.H.; four grand-children, Shannon Sharp of North Adams, Steven Diamond of Williamstown, Patrick Sweet and his wife, Leslie of N.H.; and Matthew Sweet and his wife, Maranantha of N.H.; four great grandchildren: Damian Sharp, Lauren Diamond, Brooke Sweet and Bryan Sweet, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. Dorothy was the last of a family of five and was predeceased by Janice Harriman, James Fowler, William Fowler and Emma Banas. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Dorothy Sweet will be celebrated on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 11 am at the Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery immediately following the services. At the family's request, flowers are omitted.
