Earl H. Beauchaine

1921-2013 Earl H. Beauchaine, 92, of 109 Housatonic Street, Lenox, died Thursday morning at his home. Born in Pittsfield April 18, 1921, the son of Earl H. and Lillian Noble Beauchaine, he was educated in local schools, including Pittsfield High School. Mr. Beauchaine served his country during World War II, as a U.S. Army combat infantryman. Stationed in the Phillipines, he took part in the liberation of that island. In battle, he was shot in the hand, and received a Purple Heart award. He was honorably discharged January 14, 1946. He had been employed by the City of Pittsfield as a custodian in the public schools, retiring after twenty years of service. Mr. Beauchaine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and in recent years enjoyed attending church services with his family at the Middlefield Congregational Church. An avid sports fan, his favorite team was the Dodgers; he also routed for the Celtics and spent many weekends watching college football. He was a member of VFW Post 448 and had been a member of the Pittsfield Elks Lodge 0272 for more than sixty years. He served as Exhaulted Ruler of the Pittsfield Elks Lodge 1957. In 2011 he was honored to be named Elk of the Year. Over the years, Mr. Beauchaine participated in many fundraising events for both the Pittsfield Elks Lodge and the VFW. His wife, the former Elinor Henrickson, died in 1999. They had been married for forty-three years at the time of her death. He is survived by three daughters: Amy Beauchaine and her husband William Speros of Longwood, FL; Jean Masengil and her husband Roy of Philadelphia, PA; and Marie Lafayette and her husband John of Middlefield, MA; grandchildren Heather Clemmons, Alexander Speros and Kolby and Erik Lafayette; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Constance DeForest of Anaheim, CA. Mr. Beauchaine is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. A brother, Clayton Beauchaine, died in September 2012; he was also predeceased by three sisters: Marjorie Beauchaine, Evelyn Fettridge and Rosemary Blanquart. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral of Earl H. Beauchaine will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsfield with Reverend Timothy Weissman, Rector, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the Roche Funeral Home in Lenox will be Friday from 5 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Beauchaine's memory may be made to the Pittsfield Elks Lodge 0272 in care of the funeral home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
