Edna I. Schaefer

1933 - 2014 LEE Edna I. Schaefer, 81, of East Street, died Tuesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. She was born in Lee on April 1, 1933, the daughter of Joseph and Lillian Gangell Coty. She attended Lee Schools. Mrs. Schaefer was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Lee. She was a homemaker and enjoyed being with and taking care of her family and her pets. On Oct. 7, 1950, she married John R. Schaefer Sr. He died in April of 1992. She is survived by three sons, David J. Schaefer and his wife, Diane, of Virginia Beach, Va., Timothy B. Schaefer and his wife, Molly, of Tyringham, and James C. Schaefer of Lee; a daughter, Nancy I. Simonelli and her husband, David, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, John Coty and his wife, Mary, of Lee, and Richard Coty and his wife, Mary Lou, of Lee; two sisters, Hattie Clark of Lee and Lillian Hiser and her husband, Phillip, of Lee; a sister-in-law, Jeannette Coty; four grandchildren, Amie Robinson, Trisha Schaefer, Dakota Schaefer and Benjamin Schaefer, and four great-grandchildren, Abigail Robinson, Alexis Robinson, Chase Harper and Brystol Harper. She was predeceased by another son, John R. Schaefer Jr., who died in January of this year, and by two brothers, Robert and Marshall Coty. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Edna Schaefer will be Friday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. at the KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Friends wishing may make donations in her memory to St. Mary's School in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238.
