1929 - 2015 ADAMS Mr. Edward Michael Kondel, 85, of 9 Lincoln St., Adams, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was born in Adams on April 10, 1929, a son of the late Michael and Karolina (Dziadzio) Kondel. He attended schools in Adams and graduated from the former Adams High School with the class on 1948. Mr. Kondel was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the United States Army in Germany until receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1956. Mr. Kondel last worked as the Purchasing and Traffic Manager of Adams Laundry and Dry Cleaning Co., Adams from 1985 until his retirement in 1993. Earlier he had worked as the purchasing agent for the former General Cable Co. and the former Brightwater Paper Co. Since his retirement in 1993 he has worked summers at the Mountain View Farm selling strawberries. He was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, where he served as an usher, lector and Eucharistic Minister. In 1975, he was installed as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist by Bishop Christopher J. Weldon in St. Michael's Cathedral. He had also taught CCD and served on the Parish Council. He was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and was a past member of the Berkshire County Deputy Sherriff's Association. Mr. Kondel had served as the President and Treasurer of the Berkshire County Traffic Association and was approved by the Governor to serve on the Traffic Commission for the development of the Greylock Glen. He also served on Town of Adams Finance Committee for 17 years, with four years as chairman, and was past chairman of the Northern Berkshire Industrial Commission. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Stella M. Lemoine, whom he married on June 13, 1953; two sons; Gregory Kondel and his wife, Ginny of North Adams and David Kondel and his wife, Karen of Cheshire; three daughters; Carol Kondel and Anne Marie Kondel-Long and her husband, Rodney, all of Adams and Elizabeth Deegan and her husband John of Hopewell Junction, NY; three grandchildren; Nicole Gross of Westford, MA, Carly Kondel of Cheshire and Jonathan Deegan of Hopewell Junction, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers; Walter, Stanley, Teddy, Casimer, Raymond and John Kondel and by two sisters; Helen Kulpa and Blanche Jette. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 11, at 11 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 NOON in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, McKinley Square, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
