Edward Slater Sr.

1931-2013 PITTSFIELD Edward Slater Sr., 81, passed away peacefully on March 24 at Hillcrest Commons.

He was born in Pittsfield, to parents William and Delia Slater on May 7, 1931. He attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1949. After high school, he worked in the community and was a member of the National Guard until he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953. Some of his fondest memories were of the three years he was stationed in Erding, Germany. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, Eddie began his career with General Electric in Pittsfield. He spent the majority of his years with GE as an inspector for the Power Transformer Division. Later he worked on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Eddie retired in 1993 with 41 years of service.

He spent his retirement years fishing, winning turkeys at turkey-shoots, tending to his garden and feeding his many friends - the squirrels and birds that frequented his backyard. He was a member of the VFW in Dalton.

After the death of his first wife , Beverly Potter, to whom he was married 24 years, Eddie married high school sweetheart, Barbara Pupo, in 1980. He and Barbara spent many vacations in Wells, Maine and Gloucester, Massachusetts enjoying the beautiful landscape and wildlife.

He leaves Barbara, his devoted wife of 33 years; a son, Edward Slater Jr. of Adams; daughters Debby Glassanos and her husband Tom of Pleasanton, Calif., Wendy Cowell of West Palm Beach, Fla., Barbara L. Slater of Pittsfield, and Kim Slater of Adams; and two step-sons, Timothy O'Brien of Alplaus, N.Y. and Michael O'Brien of Saginaw, Minn. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Robert (Bob) of East New Brunswick, N.J.

Edward was predeceased by his former wife, Beverly; sister, Margaret Guilino and brother, William Slater.

Calling Hours are Monday, April 1 from 5 to7 p.m. at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 2 at 10 a.m. at Devanny- Condron. Burial with military honors will follow at Pittsfield Cemetery.

If friends desire, donations may be made to St. Jude Children Cancer Research or the Berkshire Humane Society of Pittsfield.
