Edward A. Stomski Sr.

1932 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Edward Alexander Stomski Sr., 82, formerly of Pittsfield, and Wells, Vt., passed away on May 10, 2014. Born in Pittsfield, on March 30, 1932, he was the son of the late Bernard Stomski Sr. and Sadie S. Miller Kay, formerly of Great Barrington. Raised in Pittsfield, Edward was a 1949 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Upon graduation, Edward worked for the Pittsfield Parks Department and the General Electric Company as a wireman for the manufacturing of U.S. Naval Gun Director Systems. A master carpenter by trade, he was a member of the following unions; Local 108, Local 444, and Local 260 in Pittsfield, North Adams, and the Glens Falls, N.Y. area. He worked for many construction companies throughout his career, frequently as job foreman or superintendent. He retired in 1994. Edward was one of the founding members of the Wells, Vt. volunteer fire department and was instrumental in the design and building of the original fire house there, as well as becoming an assistant fire chief in that town. He was also a member and volunteer of the Modern Woodmen of America in Wells. A fun-loving, witty, and humorous individual, Edward was a life-long, avid Red Sox fan. He was an extremely talented and skilled craftsman and he loved to fish and hunt. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carole E. Reed Stomski of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a sister, Rose LaCasse of Pittsfield; two brothers, Richard Stomski and his wife, Nina, of Torrington, Conn. and Leonard Stomski and his wife, Doris, of Cheshire; two aunts and uncles, Joseph Kay and his wife, Ceccie, and Edward Kay and his wife, Jean, of Great Barrington; his children, Edward A. Stomski Jr. of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Leonard W. Stomski of Pittsfield, Gary B. Stomski of Wells, Vt., Sharon A. Newton and her husband, Forrest, of Berkshire, Mass., Felicia Dougherty and her husband, Steve, of Salem, N.Y., Suzan Snow and her husband, Keith, of Manchester, N.H., James P. Stomski and his wife, Karen, of Wells, Vt., and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Bernard. FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the family's convenience and his burial will be private.
