1938 - 2014 DALTON Edward Harold Szklasz, 76, of 21 Cliff Street, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at his home. Born in Great Barrington on July 27, 1938, he was the son of Harry and Virginia Supka Szklasz. He was a 1956 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Szklasz served with the United States Navy aboard the Destroyer Escort, U.S.S. Peterson, from 1957 to 1959. Mr. Szklasz was employed by General Electric Company where he was a machinist. He retired in 1993 with 28 years service. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church. He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. He was a coin collector. Mr. Szklasz's wife, the former Joan M. Pelkey, whom he married July 8, 1961, died Jan. 13, 2004. Mr. Szklasz is survived by a daughter, Christine A. Szklasz and her wife, Jane Cross, of Dalton; two sons, Edward H. Szklasz and his wife, Kelly, of Dalton, and Michael J. Szklasz and his wife, Tammy, of Dalton; a sister, M. Catherine O'Donnell and her husband, Jack, of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Nicole H., Nicole S., Heather, Jason, Justin, and Lisa; three step grandchildren, Monica, Zach, and Seth; three great-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren; as well as a niece and a nephew. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Edward H. Szklasz will be held Thursday, Oct. 2, at 9:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m, at St. Agnes Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 4 to 7 p.m, at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
