Eleanor M. Gavin 1931 - 2012 PITTSFIELD Eleanor M. Gavin, 80, formerly of Wahconah Heights, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Springside of Pittsfield where she had resided the past four years. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 15, 1931, a daughter of Patrick H. and Lila Bishop Gavin, she was educated in Pittsfield schools. Miss Gavin had been employed in the kitchen at the former Ida & John's Restaurant in Lenox and at the former Sugar Bowl Restaurant on North Street. Miss Gavin had no children of her own, but she loved taking care of children and had been called "a mother to all." She enjoyed playing bingo, horse racing, and taking care of children. Miss Gavin is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Bristol and Caroline Casey, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Robert "Skip" Bristol and his wife, Carol, of Pittsfield; as well as several nieces and nephews, including her niece and longtime caregiver, Lila Catalano, of Pittsfield. She was predeceased by five brothers, Lawrence Gavin, Richard Gavin, Roger Gavin, Everett Gavin, and Robert Gavin. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Eleanor M. Gavin will be held Tuesday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with the Rev. Peter Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Miss Gavin may be made to the family to help defray funeral expenses in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
