Eleanor P. Spring Murphy

1923-2013 Eleanor P. (Spring) Murphy, 89, of Pittsfield, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on November 28, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Herbert V. and Pearl I. (Raymond) Spring and sister of the late Edward, Glenn, Herbert and Ernest Spring, Lillian Garrity and Geraldine LaJoie. Educated in Pittsfield schools she was employed by the Eaton Paper Co. during World War II, and worked as a nurse's aide in the city's hospitals and nursing homes for many years. She loved her family, country music, crafts, puzzles, traveling, and being with her family. Eleanor was married to Raymond A. Murphy, Sr. on March 9, 1943 at St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield. He passed away in September of 1996. She was predeceased by a son, David Murphy, who passed away in 2007, and a daughter, Cheryl P. Hover, who passed away in 2010. She will be missed by her children, Raymond and his wife, Patricia Murphy of Shutesbury, Ellen and her husband, Michael Wood of Pittsfield, and son-in-law, Chester Hoover of Pittsfield. She also leaves six grandchildren, Shaun Hover, Erin Robinson, James Hover, William Murphy, Paul Murphy and Reverend Michael Wood, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren, Rachael, Rebecca, Jessica, Sydney, Christine, Tiffany, Nathan and Crystall; and a great great-granddaughter, Charlee, along with her beloved nephews and nieces and friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Eleanor Murphy will be concelebrated by her grandson, Rev. Michael Wood Jr. on Friday, October 18 at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will take place on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the FLYNN AND DAGNOLIBENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm Street, Pittsfield, MA.
