1920 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Eleanor Peltier, 94, of Pittsfield, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 7. Born in Pittsfield on May 6, 1920 the daughter of L. Hobart and Ethel Martin Merritt she was a 1937 graduate of St. Joseph High School. Eleanor attended the College of New Rochelle and was a 1940 graduate of Columbia University School of Oral Hygiene. Eleanor worked as a Dental Hygienist for several area dentists until her retirement in 1992 from the office of Dr. William Hajjar DDS. She had formerly been an active member of the National Dental Hygienists Association, the Massachusetts Dental Hygienists Association and the Berkshire Dental Hygienists Association. Eleanor had also been a member of the BMC Auxiliaries, a communicant of the former St. Teresa Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality. She is survived by her step-daughter, Elayne Doherty and her husband, Peter, of Southbury, Conn.; a brother, George Merritt of Old Lyme, Conn.; her companion of many years, Gordon Duff; three grandchildren, Mark Doherty and his wife, Barbara, David Doherty and his wife, Sheila, and Loretta Donovan and her husband, Joseph; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Marcel Peltier; and a sister, Ann Hoffman. Eleanor's family would especially like to thank her companion, Gordon; nephew, Michael Hoffman; and niece, Jody Tierney, for all the compassionate care they provided Eleanor over the past few years. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 11, at 10:30 from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elder Services, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, in her memory.
