Eleanor Smachetti

1932-2014 DALTON Eleanor Smachetti, 81, of Kimberly Dr., passed away Sunday surrounded by her family following a brief illness. Eleanor was born on May 16, 1932 in Pittsfield, the daughter of Louis and Rose Serra Novaris, she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1950. She was employed at the former A.H. Rice Silk Mill for twelve years and retired after sixteen years from Central Equipment in Milford, Mass., where she was an office clerk. Eleanor was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Dalton. She enjoyed baking was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, her greatest joy was her spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eleanor is survived by her husband John A. Smachetti whom she married September 29, 1951, children Michael Smachetti of Belchertown, Mass., Carol Fontaine and her husband Donald of Savoy, Mass., John Smachetti and his wife Toni of Farmington, Conn., Janet Benoit and her husband Bill of Dalton, Mass., grandchildren Rachel, Kayla, Rosie, Amy, Jennifer, Aimee, John, Michael, Tim, Alicia and Peter, eight great grandchildren, sister Fran Ferguson and brother Louis Novaris. She was predeceased by a sister Rita Zoph and daughter in law Debbie. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Eleanor Smachetti will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. There will be no calling hours.
