Elisabeth Stuart Obituary
Elisabeth "Lisa" Stuart

1924 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Elisabeth "Lisa" Stuart, 90, died peacefully at Springside of Pittsfield on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, surrounded by loving family. Born on Jan. 19, 1924, in Altona, Germany, the youngest daughter of Elvira and Emil Niedermayer, her earliest years were spent in Milan, Italy. She was born into a family of classical dancers, often recalling her memories of the rehearsal rooms at La Scala where her uncle became ballet master, dancing with the famous Pavlova. The family emigrated to NYC in 1929 where she was educated in the NYC public schools, graduating from Hunter College High School with a degree in French, a recipient of the Moliere Award. Music, dance, opera, linguistics, decorative arts and politics were her passions. Whether managing the local McGovern headquarters in 1972, teaching for Literacy Volunteers, creating beautiful quilts with her friends at the LBS at South Congregational Church, or going to live theatrical and operatic performances, her life was rich in experience and friends of all ages. A devoted wife and mother, she was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Thomas Stuart, in 1997. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Anita Berardinelli and Amelia Niedermayer. She is survived by her children, Anita Stuart (Gail Street), Kenneth Stuart (Kathleen Zaffino), Maria Stuart (Robert Rodriguez); and her four grandchildren, Meghan Harrison, Caitlin Harrison, Anna Stuart, and Maxwell Stuart. FUNERAL NOTICE: A private burial will be in Flushing Cemetery in Brooklyn, N.Y. and a celebration of her life will be arranged by the family in the spring. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to HospiceCare of the Berkshires, the staff of Springside of Pittsfield and of Epoch at Melbourne for their loving care and support. Donations may be made in her honor to HospiceCare of the Berkshires through WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME of Pittsfield.
