Elizabeth Perkins Carapellese

1932 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Elizabeth Perkins Carapellese, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Palm Desert, Calif., on June 2, 2014. Betty, as she was known to her loved ones and friends, was born in Pittsfield on Aug. 22, 1932, to Andrew and Mary Perkins, and attended St. Joseph High School. She married the late Raymond Discoe of Pittsfield, and they then moved to California. She eventually settled in Palm Desert in 1973. Betty had a long and successful career in government service. She was the field representative for a state assemblywoman and then for a state senator. She retired in 2002, but stayed active by serving on the committees of several charitable organizations. She volunteered at the animal shelter, and enjoyed reading to children at the local library. In honor of her tireless charitable work, she received Palm Desert's Senior Inspiration Award. She was an avid reader and loved to garden. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to visit her children. She was a wonderful and loving mother to three children, Cheryl Spiteri and her husband, Michael, of Michigan, Michael Discoe and his wfie, Debbie, of California, and Steven Discoe of Nevada. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Garrity, of Pittsfield. She was the proud grandmother of three grandchildren, and aunt to many beloved nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Dominic Carapellese; her parents; her brother, Robert Perkins, of Pittsfield; her brother-in-law, James Garrity, of Pittsfield, and her sister-in-law, Gert Perkins, of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE: Carapellese, Elizabeth Perkins, died June 2. A Celebration of her life will begin Saturday, June 21 at 9 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Church with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Charles Church in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
