Elizabeth Cronk

1921 - 2014 ASHLEY FALLS Elizabeth "Billie" McDonald Cronk, 92, died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Theresa Decker, on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. She was a lifelong resident of Sheffield and Ashley Falls. Born in Great Barrington on June 14, 1921, she was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Dovey McDonald. In Billie's early years, she danced and sang in performances at the Mahaiwe Theatre. She was a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsfield. Billie dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked as a nurse for nearly 60 years, having spent over 50 of those years at Fairview Hospital. Billie married her husband, the late Samuel "Bud" Cronk Jr., and moved to Ashley Falls, where they lived in a house, for 70 years, that they proudly built together. Billie loved knitting, crocheting, traveling, gardening, music and reading. Her greatest joy was spending time at her house with family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Eleanor and Jesse Hankey, Susan and Michael Romano and Theresa Cronk-Decker and John Decker; her brother in law, George Cronk; her beloved grandchildren, Blaine, Keane and Lucian Decker; her step grandchildren, Hailey and Thomas Hankey Jr., and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Cronk Jr., and her son, Richard G. Cronk.
