Elizabeth "Betty" Doscher

1913 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
PITTSFIELD - Elizabeth V. "Betty" Doscher, age 98, of Melbourne Assisted Living in Pittsfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning May 10, 2012.
Betty was born in Jersey City, NJ, July 8, 1913, daughter of Michael and Mary Makely. She graduated from high school with a secretarial certificate and worked as a secretary for a number of years. She married Jack Doscher and had two sons, Jeff and Kevin, and moved to Red Bank, NJ. Her loving husband died in 1956. She re-entered the workforce as a sales associate in the retail clothing industry and devoted herself to raising her children.
She moved to Pittsfield in 1976 to be closer to her two sons and help care for her first grandchild. She continued being an important figure in the lives of all three grandchildren. Betty was a parishioner of St. Mark's Church and then Mount Carmel where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Her deep faith in God and her devotion to her family provided her with the strength to live a long and happy life. Her grandchildren were everything to her and she always made them feel special. They in turn made her very proud. Her love for her family was unconditional.
Betty lived a simple life and left a lasting impression with everyone she spent time with. She was a warm and kind person who always had a little quip or saying that brought a smile to others. In October 2007 she moved to Melbourne Assisted Living where she continued to be active and was involved with the Stearns' Elementary School Reading Buddies Program, the Foster Grandparent Program, Miss Halls' School students, and helped adults with special needs.
Betty had eight brothers and sisters. She was the matriarch, looking after the others. Joe, Helen, Bob, Michael and May predeceased her and Dorothy, George and Geraldine are still living. Betty's sons live in Pittsfield; Kevin, with his wife Susan, and Jeff, with his wife, Donna, along with their children, Christopher, Lauren & Shaun who loved their grandmother deeply and miss her. Susan and Donna loved Betty with a tenderness that made her feel very special. Kevin and Jeff feel so fortunate to have been loved and nurtured by such a strong and proud woman who set a progressive example of how to approach life and reap its rewards. She was an inspirational figure in all of their lives.
Betty, big sister, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law will be missed by her family, but certainly not forgotten. May she rest in peace and find continued happiness with her husband Jack.
