Elizabeth "Hazel" (Casey) Costa St. Hilaire

1922-2013 Elizabeth H. St. Hilaire, formerly of North Adams and Williamstown, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, in Ridgewood, N.J., at the age of 91. She was born July 11, 1922, in Concord, Maine, the daughter of Mary Rose Cormier Casey and Philias (Caissie) Casey. Upon graduation from Monson Academy in Monson, Maine, she worked in the aviation industry in Brooklyn, N.Y. during World War II. Early in her marriage to Nicola Costa, she worked at Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, but later established and operated the former Colonial Restaurant in Williamstown. She was active in the Women's Auxiliary for the VFW, Legion, and the Ladies' Aid in all the churches she attended throughout her lifetime. During her later years after she married her second husband, Vincent St. Hilaire, she helped to raise and sell vegetables, flowers, and crafts at the Williamstown Farmers' Market. Elizabeth led a full life that included a passion for Bible study, travel, reading, writing, gardening, family and friends; in fact, she was a valued participant in the Christian Healthcare Center, Wyckoff, N.J., until a week before she passed, and she always prided herself in having learned Hebrew and visited Israel. She was predeceased by husbands Nicola Costa, who died in 1986, and Vincent St. Hilaire, whom she married in 1992 and who died in 2008; daughter, Elizabeth Roy; stepchildren, Frances St. Hilaire and Theresa Kennedy; sisters, Norma Jamros, Lodie Darmstadt, Dora Sheldon, Emily Barnett; and brother, Regis Casey She leaves two brothers, Norris Casey of Antioch, Calif. and Otis Casey of Dover Plains, N.Y.; one sister, Leah Tracy of Cheshire; two sons, Nicola G. Costa of North Wales, Pa., and David Costa of North Adams; three daughters, Sandra Szczygiel of Prince Edward Island, Canada, Laurie Zacharias of Walnut, Calif., and Michelle Oleski of North Haledon, N.J. She has 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; four stepdaughters, Annette Szpila, Bernadette Snide, Mary Jones, Rita Jowett; and three stepsons, Paul, Keith, and Gerard St. Hilaire. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St.'s Patrick and Raphael Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling Hours are Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
