Elizabeth Neveu Obituary
Elizabeth J. Neveu

1928 - 2015 NORTH ADAMS Elizabeth Josephine Neveu of 129 Glen Avenue, passed away on September 12, 2015, at the age of 87. She was born in North Adams on March 30, 1928, a daughter of the late Josephine (Hoettle) and Henry Brice, and was educated in North Adams at St. Joseph's High School and North Adams State College. In October of 1946 Elizabeth married Alfred Neveu, who passed away on February 18, 2005. As a married woman raising five young children, with the support of her husband and mother, Elizabeth attended North Adams State College as a full-time day student in an era when non-traditional students were uncommon. She proudly graduated magna cum laude in 1961. Following graduation, she was a teacher at Johnson Elementary School in North Adams for many years. Elizabeth was an accomplished pianist who loved singing with her family, Bridge, and played a mean game of "Spoons." With their five children, she and Alfred enjoyed many memorable camping trips. In her golden years, Elizabeth and Alfred traveled in Europe, revisiting many of the battlefields and other locations Alfred had been stationed at during WWII, as well as visiting with her extended family in Alsace, France, who she remained in contact with throughout her long life. In her later years, she discovered and adored the Amish Country of Pennsylvania, visiting often with her husband, and after his passing with her daughters. Her faith was very important to Elizabeth, and she was an active member of the Blackinton Union Church, where she enjoyed Bible study and the fellowship and love of her church family. With a keen wit, Elizabeth delighted in good-natured political arguments with her family, conceding nothing over the years. Family was first and foremost for Elizabeth, and she and Alfred were blessed with a fulfilling lifetime of meaningful birthday parties, family picnics, Sunday dinners, dance recitals, band concerts, holidays, graduations, and anniversaries. Elizabeth's family would like to express their profound gratitude to Pastor Eugene Kemp and her Blackinton Union family, as well as to her beloved friends and caregivers, Theresa Zelazo and Gerri Ballou, and her Hospice nurse, Gloria Richards. Elizabeth is predeceased by her beloved husband, Alfred Neveu, her son, David Neveu, and her sisters, Margaret Brice and Florence McKane. She is survived by her daughters Linda O'Connell and her husband, Brian O'Connell of North Adams, Mary Leitch and her husband, James Leitch of Adams and her sons, Michael Neveu and his wife, Jane Neveu of Fort Worth, TX, and James Neveu of Brattleboro, VT. Elizabeth will be profoundly missed by her adored grandchildren, Shaun O'Connell and his wife, Lisa of Middleboro, MA, Christopher O'Connell and his wife, Jennifer of Tolland, CT, Katherine Leitch and her husband, Terence Kooyker of New York, NY, Joseph Neveu Schwarz of Pittsfield, Michael Neveu and his wife, Lisa of Denver, CO, and Brian Neveu and his fiancee, Nicolle Bowlingh of Austin, TX. Elizabeth also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, Grace O'Connell of Tolland, CT, and Garrett Kooyker of New York, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth will be forever missed by her family and friends.
