Ellen L. Hovey

1928 - 2013 DALTON Ellen L. Hovey, 84, of 600 Main St., died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born on June 12, 1928, in Upper Jay, N.Y., she was a daughter of Jesse and Agnes Peck Johnson. She was educated in New York schools and had resided in Dalton for the past 25 years. Prior to that, she had resided in Pittsfield.

Mrs. Hovey was employed as an assembler at Chemex of Pittsfield for ten years, retiring in 1980. She had also worked at one time at Marland Mold.

She was a member of the Christian Center where she taught Sunday School. She enjoyed country music, playing the guitar and traveling. She also enjoyed nature and animals.

Her husband, Joseph E. Hovey whom she married in 1986, died May 7, 1992. Her first husband, the late Floyd Crowningshield died in 1992.

She leaves two daughters, Yvonne M. Nataro and her husband, Richard, of Hinsdale and Evelyn A. Vezina and her husband, Walter, of Pittsfield; a brother, Nelson Johnson of New York; a sister, Eunice Messina of Florida; seven grandchildren, Lisa, Thomas, Tina, Scott, Corinne, Julie and Brian, and nine great -grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, the late Carol Scorpa who died in 1986, and by her brothers, Norman, Charles and Alfred, and by a sister, Alma.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Ellen L. Hovey, 84, of Dalton who died March 23, 2013, will be held Wednesday at 12 noon at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, conducted by the Rev. Sigmund Sadzinski. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 10 to 12 Noon, prior to the service.
