1923 - 2014 NORTH ADAMS Mr. Elmo Demo, 91, of Chantilly Ave., died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, in the loving care of Williamstown Commons. He was born in North Adams on May 25, 1923, son of Martin and Elvira (Baroni) Demo. He attended local schools. A barber for 58 years, three generations of customers have sat in his chair. Elmo's Barbershop was friendly, a meeting place where everyone was welcome. Many of North Adams' problems were solved there and many people depended on the large clock in his window to check the time. Elmo travelled to Europe as a young man where he was trapped in Italy during World War II, fighting with the Resistance. On Sept. 4, 1950, he married Filomena Grande. They were married for 63 years. Elmo leaves his wife, Filomena; his son, Sergio, and his wife, Gail; and two grandsons, Nathan and Wyatt. His sister, Doris Demo, died on November 7, 2011. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Elmo will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
