Obituary Condolences

Estelle Andron Landes

1917-2013 Born January 7, 1917 in Brooklyn, N.Y., died on February 6, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

She was the wife of the late Sidney Landes, and the mother of Harold (wife, Dorothy) Stanley (Amy) and Fred (Brenda.) She was predeceased by her daughter Elissa and her brother Daniel Andron. She was the loving Bubbie of Beth (husband, Adam) Teddy, Nora, Michael, Joshua and Sam, and great-grandmother of Abigail.

Bubbie was a musical prodigy and studied at the Julliard School of Music under the tutelage of Rosinna Levinne. She gave concerts at such venues as the Museum of the City of New York, and on WNYC. She also performed at numerous charitable events.

She was deeply involved in communal and charitable work for much of her life, including service as the President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Yeshivah of Flatbush and of the Sisterhood of the Young Israel of Flatbush. She was an active member of the chevreh kadisha and taught others the precepts for care of the deceased. She was a lifetime member of Mizrahi Amit Women, and late in life volunteered in the care of abandoned infants at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami, Florida.

Estelle was devastatingly funny, and loved to speak publicly. She had sympathy for life's underdogs and empathy for the underprivileged. She was a fiercely loyal defender of her children, and was deeply in love with Sidney with whom she shared a beautiful marriage. In addition to her communal leadership, she had a deep connection with her many friends.

Donations in her memory can be made to Autism Speaks.
