Esther Bakst Cutler

1921-2012 PITTSFIELD Mrs. Esther B. Cutler of 112 Roselyn Drive, Pittsfield, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at home at the age of 91.

She was born January 6, 1921 in Whitehall, N.Y., the youngest of five daughters to Jacob and Yetta Bakst. She graduated from Glens Falls High School and worked at General Electric in Schenectady after graduation. In 1942 she married Samuel Cutler and moved to his hometown of Pittsfield which she quickly made her town as well.

Esther was a member of Knesset Israel Synagogue, also B'nai Brith and Hadassah. She was a Girl Scout leader and worked the polls every election for many years. She loved playing cards, especially bridge, poker, black jack and Majong and she enjoyed fishing and shelling in Florida.

Above all Esther loved her family and was especially proud of having lived long enough to know all five of her great-grandchildren, Gavin, Kate Clara, and twins James and Rory Hamrick. She also leaves her daughter Anita Bakst with whom she made her home, a son, Bruce Cutler and his wife Linda of Naples, Fla., her granddaughter, Simone and her husband Wes of Stockbridge, and Notre Dame, Indiana, and her wonderful nieces, Marsha Ellis of Monroe, N.Y., Naomi Jaffe of Troy, N.Y., Betteann Sherman of Fort Myers, Fla., and their families and her devoted caretaker and friend Annette Obert and the clever dog Dusty.

Esther was predeceased by her husband Sam, her daughter Lynne, her parents, and all her beloved sisters, Syd, Reva, Ida and Trudy.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Friday, September 28, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Congregation Knesset Israel , 16 Colt Road, Pittsfield with Rabbi David Weiner, Spiritual Leader and Barbara Cohen, Spiritual Leader of Ahavath Sholom Synagogue in Great Barrington officiating. Burial will follow In Knesset Israel cemetery.
