Ethel Blanchard

1918-2013 DALTON- Ethel Blanchard, 95, of Tower Road, died November 14, 2013 at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born April 26, 1918, in Pittsfield, daughter of Peter and Mary (Fimble) Van Korb. She graduated from Dalton High School in 1936 after which she was employed at Crane and Co. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dalton where she served on the Boards of Trustees, Deacons, and Religious Education and other committees. She also was a delegate to the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ. She served on search committees for pastors and organists and was a long time choir member and Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Blanchard was a member of Eastern Star and was initiated at the Berkshire Chapter, Dalton, and was affiliated with the Morning Star Chapter in Lee. She was a member of the Christian Center Auxiliary for many years and was a representative from the Dalton Congregational Church to that organization. She volunteered at the former Pittsfield General Hospital and at the Berkshire Medical Center and was also an American Red Cross volunteer. Mrs. Blanchard was a member of the Hilltown Choral Society. Her husband, Orland J. Blanchard, whom she married August 17, 1940, died April 9, 1976. She leaves two sons, Dr. Orland J. Blanchard, Jr. and his wife Jane of Gainesville, Fla., and Andrew V.K. Blanchard and his wife Debbie of Cambridge; and a daughter, Molly Casbeer of Dalton; a granddaughter, Jennifer Blanchard and her husband Dr. David Rovnyak of Lewisburg, Pa.; and two great grandchildren, Henry and Holly. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Theresa DeWitt and Helen Shephard; and four brothers, Edward, Charles, Joseph, and Frederick Van Korb. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Mrs. Ethel Blanchard will be held at a later date. Burial was private and at the convenience of the family.
