1940-2014 PITTSFIELD Everett Merrell, 73 of Elberon Ave, in Pittsfield, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 24, 2014. Everett, the son of the late Roger C Merrell and Jacquelyn Clark Merrell was born in Springfield, MA on September 2, 1940. Everett grew up in Western Mass and enjoyed a diverse array of interests. He was passionate about riding his motorcycle, NASCAR, fishing, hunting, boating, and photography. At various times in his life, Everett was employed in farming, factory work, construction and food service. Everett moved to Pittsfield in 1982 and became a part of the BCARC family. Everett enjoyed conversation about all of his experiences and pursuits. He especially liked to recall his annual travels to Florida and the occasional fishing trip to Quebec or Cape Cod. Everett was an outgoing, kind man known best for his accepting nature, generosity and independent spirit. He continues to give through organ donation. Those closest to him also appreciated his candid sense of humor. Everett leaves his brother Roger of Lee, MA, and his brother Richard and Richard's wife Susan of Middlefield, MA. And he leaves his beloved niece, Janis Merrell of Belchertown, MA. In addition, Everett leaves many friends and associates at BCARC including his housemates, Stuart, Jim, Ed and Tom as well as many staff from BCARC and other agencies who had the pleasure of working with him through the years. A special tribute goes to Ann, Joy, Kyle and Carol who provided him with support, advocacy and friendship for many years. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service to honor Everett will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 2 PM at Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA, with the Rev. William D. Furey officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the community room located at Rose Manor housing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BCARC, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in his memory.
