Faro Tranquilli

1924 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Faro Tranquilli, 88, of 18 Elberon Avenue, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 28, 1924, the son of Frank and Ida Curini Tranquilli, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.

A veteran of both World War II and Korea, Mr. Tranquilli enlisted with the Air Force on Nov. 17, 1942. He served overseas from December 1943 to August 1944 for which he was awarded four battle stars and five oak leaf clusters. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 12, 1945 with the rank of Technical Sergeant.

Mr. Tranquilli re-enlisted with the United States Air Force on Aug. 16, 1950. He served another two years overseas for which he was awarded a sixth oak leaf cluster among other medals. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 18, 1954, with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Tranquilli went to work for General Electric Company where he was a laboratory technician in the Ordnance Division. He retired in 1985.

He was a New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, and following politics.

Mr. Tranquilli leaves his wife, the former Mary L. Alvaro, whom he married May 9, 1958, in West Lebanon, N.Y.

He is also survived by two sisters, Diana Carlon of Pittsfield, and Leda Melideo, and her husband, Anthony, of Pittsfield, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
