Felix "Phil" Charles Alfano 1917-2012 PITTSFIELD Felix "Phil" Charles Alfano, 94, of 77 Allengate Avenue, Pittsfield, died Sunday, January 15, 2012, at the home of his son, John, in Los Altos, California Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 16, 1917, a son of Charles and Charlotte Artale Alfano, he was a graduate of Richmond High School and St. John's College, both in Brooklyn. He later earned as master's degree in education from North Adams State College. Mr. Alfano was employed by General Electric Company where he was a Systems Analyst. He retired in 1981 with 41 years service. He was an accomplished clarinet and saxophone player. During the 1930s and '40s, he played with the big bands on the shores of Long Island, New York. Mr. Alfano had been a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where he was active in parish work, as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, and taught C.C.D. After the closing of Mount Carmel, he became a communicant of St. Charles Church. He had also been a member of the Good Shepherd Community. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the General Electric T.K. Golf League. He was a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Red Sox and also enjoyed gardening. Mr. Alfano leaves his wife of fifty five years, the former Edna R. Federico, whom he married September 29, 1956, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, John C. Alfano and wife, Barbara, of Los Altos, Calif., Philip T. Alfano of Murphy's, Calif., Andrew J. Alfano and his wife, Susan, of Nashua, N.H., and Peter J. Alfano and his wife, Lauren, of Chatham, N.J.; six grandchildren, Anthony M. Alfano, Giancarlo Alfano, Joseph Alfano, Emily Alfano, Anna Alfano, and Alyssa Alfano; as well as a sister, Gloria Minard of Gaithersburg, Maryland; a dear sister- and brother-in-law, Nancy and Lawrence Scoco of Pittsfield, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Alfano was pre-deceased by a grandson, Michael Anthony Alfano, and a brother, Frank Alfano. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Felix "Phil" Charles Alfano will be held Monday, April 16, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor, and Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, Pastor of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Alfano may be made of Friends of Renal Dialysis or to St. Charles Church, both in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
