Frances E. Putnam

1923 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Frances E. Putnam, 90, went to heaven on Jan. 29, 2014, at Mt. Carmel Care Center with her daughters by her side. Franny was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Pittsfield, the daughter of the late Frank Bergain and Elizabeth Reddington. She graduated from St. Joseph's Central High School and received a degree from Forsythe School of Dental Hygiene in Boston. Her husband, James A. Putnam, whom she married on July 4, 1949, died on Sept. 7, 2010. Franny started her hygienist career with the Pittsfield School Department, then took time off to raise her three daughters. She returned to work for a variety of local dentists over the years and ended her career with the Pittsfield School Department as the "swish lady." She was a great cook and her family always sat down for dinner together which included a special dessert. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and never missed watching a game. Franny is survived by her three daughters, Beth Wilkinson and her husband, William "Wilkie," Jan Kirvin and her fiance Thomas Keefe III, and Mary Putnam and her companion, Eddie Wrba; her four grandchildren, Matthew Wilkinson and his wife, Lisa, Molly Wilkinson, Marc Wilkinson, Meghan Roy and her husband, Timothy, her three great-grandchildren, Brady, Ethan and Parker Wilkinson and her brother-in-law, Ralph Putnam and his wife, Sandy, of Lakeland, Fla. She was predeceased by her two sisters and their husbands, Barbara and Robert O'Laughlin and Mary Irene and Ernest St. Peter. The family of Mrs. Putnam would like to thank Hospice Care in the Berkshires and the staff at Mt. Carmel Care Center in Lenox for their kindness and care during their mother's illness. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Frances Putnam will be held at 10 a.m. , Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor. Franny had requested no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial donations be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA 01201.
