Frank W. Avalle Sr.

1940-2013 PITTSFIELD Frank William Avalle, Sr., 72, of 1145 Dalton Avenue, Pittsfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pittsfield on March 9, 1940, a son of Frank W. and Antoinette Contenta Avalle, he was educated in Pittsfield and Dalton schools and was a graduate of Dalton High School.

A machine operator by trade, Mr. Avalle was last employed by Mead Paper Company in Lee and had worked for Crane & Company in Dalton.

Mr. Avalle served as Chief of Police for the Town of Becket from 1977 to 1985.

He was a member of the Becket Volunteer Ambulance Squad and had been a member of the Dalton Auxiliary Police. He had also served with the Greenport (N.Y.) Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Avalle is survived by his former wife, Karen Crowley Avalle, of Lee; two sons, Frank W. Avalle, Jr., and his companion, Muriel Mazun, of Windsor, Conn., and Larry Avalle of Becket; three daughters, Lisa Conner of Pittsfield, Trisha Garrity of Pittsfield, and Andrea Wadsworth of Lee; nine grandchildren, Randy Avalle, Kimberly Conner, Amy Conner Goddard, Richard Conner, Airen Wadsworth, Tori Wadsworth, Lily Garrity, Matthew Garrity, Billy Garrity, and two great grand-children, Connor VanDuesen, Aiden Goddard; as well as two brothers, Richard Avalle and his wife, Beverly, of Becket, and James Avalle and his wife, Dawn, of Bradenton, Florida; three sons-in-law, Jim Conner, William Garrity, and Kevin Wadsworth; his former daughter-in-law, Dawn M. Avalle of Pittsfield; several nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Alice Kisselburg of Greenport, N.Y.

He was pre-deceased by a son, David H. Avalle.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Frank William Avalle, Sr., will be held Friday, March 8, from 5 to 8 p.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. Burial will be in the spring in North Becket Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Becket Police Department Association in care the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
