Frank M. Latakas Jr.

1948-2013 PITTSFIELD Frank M. Latakas Jr., 65, of 83 Kenwood Street died Friday after a valiant battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Pittsfield on June 19, 1948, a son of the late Frank and Marie Theresa Pomerleau Latakas, he was educated in Pittsfield schools, graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1967.

Enlisting in the United States Navy for four years. Separated in 1971 from last duty station, Bureau of Naval Personnel in Arlington, VA as an E5 Personnelman.

Returning home Frank worked as a papermaker in Lee, MA, then for the United States Postal Service in Pittsfield, retiring in 2005.

Frank enjoyed fishing, gardening, hiking, and being outdoors in general, and reading and music. He leaves his wife Ellen J. Williams whom he married on May 26, 2007, his caregiver and backbone against the fight with cancer.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters; Amy Angela Lawless and her husband Akath of Nashua, NH and Jenna Marie Bremner and her husband Theo of Dalton. A son; F. Matthew Latakas of Pittsfield. His step-daughter; Sara-Lee Phillips and her husband Michael of Pittsfield. Four grandchildren; Ava Jane Bremner, Sage Akath Lawless, Vivian Lorraine Lawless and Hannah Lynn Phillips. He also leaves his sisters; Linda McGinnis and her husband Harry of Pittsfield and Theresa Tooley of Pittsfield as well as his brother; Mark E. Latakas of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Frank M. Latakas Jr. of Pittsfield who died June 28, 2013 will be held Tuesday at 10:15 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the Dery Funeral Home.

Memorial donations in memory of Frank may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
