Frank Moderski 1921-2012 EAST LONGMEADOW Frank Moderski, 90, a longtime resident of East Longmeadow, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Adams on Dec. 27, 1921 a son of the late Vincent and Blanche Swiatak) Moderski. Frank was a graduate of Adams High School where he was an avid basketball player and his team made it to the State Championships. He was a graduate from Bay Path College where he also continued to play basketball. Over the past 40 years Frank and his beloved wife, Wanda enjoyed the sport of trout fishing together. He was a member of St. Michael's Church in East Longmeadow. Frank was member of the Springfield Elks and he received a citation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Elk of the Year in 1988. Frank proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by four brothers Walter, Philip, Stanley and John Moderski, and four sisters Celia Kordana, Gladys Moderski, Marcianna Moderski and Phyllis Dunne. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Wanda (Galinski) Moderski of East Longmeadow; his devoted daughter, Linda Carfiro and her husband, Michael, of Coventry, Conn.; a cherished granddaughter, Holly Martello and her husband, Jesse, of Somers, Conn.; three adored great grandchildren, Katlyn, Jesse Jr., and Lauren Brook Martello all of Somers, Conn., and two nephews, Vincent and Andrew Moderski. FUNERAL NOTICE: Frank's funeral will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. from the FORASTIERE SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 220 NORTH MAIN STREET, EAST LONGMEADOW, MA 01028 followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:30 at St. Michael's Church, 128 Maple Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Family and friends are invited to a gathering on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 3 to 6 p.m.. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Frank's memory to St. Michael's Church, 128 Maple Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028 or Springfield Lodge of Elks Scholarship Fund, 440 Tiffany Street, Springfield, MA 01108.
