Frederick Z. Rooke

1918-2013 RYE, NH Frederick Z. Rooke, 95, of Rye, formerly of Lenox, Mass., died Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Webster at Rye Health and Retirement where he had resided since 2004. He was born in Cambridge, MA April 15, 1918 the son of the late Frederick T. and Mary (Zwicker) Rooke. He graduated from Swampscott, Mass., High School and attended Lowell Institute as part of his apprenticeship with the General Electric Corporation that started his 44-year career with the company. He retired in 1980 as a mechanical engineer from the Ordinance Division, having worked in the GE sites in Lynn, Mass., Cincinnati, OH, and Pittsfield, Mass. Mr. Rooke was an avid skier, sailor, model railroader and was a member of the 70 + Ski Club. He was also known to his family as Mr. Fix-it. He resided in Lenox for over 40 years, moving to Sentry Hill at York Harbor, Maine for four years before coming to Rye. From 1950-1960 he lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. He shared 60 years of marriage with his wife, Claire M. (Dubois) Rooke who predeceased him in 2006. He was also predeceased by his sister Virginia. Family members include his loving daughter, Patricia Theisen and her husband James of Stratham; two cherished grandchildren, Jill Spier, her husband Allan, their sons Lucas and Sam of Barrington, and Craig Theisen, his wife Stephanie, their daughters Amanda and Caroline of Melrose, Mass.; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Wallace of Laguna Woods, Calif. and several nieces and nephews. Private services were held at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton, N.H.
