WILLIAMSTOWN Gail Colpoys died peacefully at home in Williamstown, MA on July 14, 2015, following an extended illness. She was born 84 years ago in Glens Falls, NY, the first and only child of John J. and Rose Leavy Sullivan. She grew up in South Glens Falls amidst several aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom have predeceased her. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls, valedictorian of her class. Graduation from the College of New Rochelle came four years later, followed by a master's degree in education at the University of Vermont. Gail taught a year of elementary school and a year and a half of American history in the Hudson Falls Central school system where she met her future husband, Joe Colpoys, to whom she was married for 59 years. They lived in Fort Lee, NJ, for a year, while Joe was finishing his doctoral program at Columbia, followed by 36 years in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, where she was a substitute teacher and tutor and coordinated the educational program at Stony Lodge Hospital in Ossining. She was a volunteer for many yearsat the Croton Free Library and in the religious education program of Holy Name of Mary parish. When Joe retired 21 years ago, they moved to Williamstown where Gail was a significant contributor as a volunteer at the Milne Public Library, practically until her death. She was also involved in the religious education program of the Saint Raphael and Saint Patrick parish and was a longtime volunteer at the Clark Art Institute. Gail is survived by her husband, Joe, her daughter, Liz Costley and her husband, Tom, and her wonderful grandchildren, Cate and Luke Costley, all residents of Williamstown. She was predeceased byher older daughter, Abbie, in 2006. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Funeral Mass will be said at St. Raphael and St. Patrick Church, 54 Southworth Street, Williamstown, on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 10a.m. A reception will follow at the Williams Inn. Interment will be in South Glens Falls at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gail's memory can be made to the Milne Public Library through the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 521 West Main Street, North Adams, MA.
