ADAMS Garry Joseph Bator Sr., 62, of Shirley, Mass., formerly of Adams, went home to the Lord surrounded by his family early Saturday morning, September 29, 2012. Born in Adams he was the son of the late Henry J. and Antoinette Martel Bator and grew up in East Cheshire where he attended elementary school. He then attended the Charles H. McCann Vocational Technical High School in North Adams and later graduated from Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield in 1984. Mr. Bator owned and operated the former Adams Aquarium and Pet Shop in Adams, worked for various area construction companies, and for 25 years owned and operated his own computer consulting company. While in Adams Mr. Bator was a communicant of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church. He was a precinct member in the Town of Adams and also received the Who's Who of America Award.
He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, swimming and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He first moved from Cheshire to Adams and then in 1987 with his wife and children moved to Shirley, Mass.
He is survived by his wife, the former Susan Lefebvre, whom he married on September 16, 1967; three sons, Garry J. Bator Jr. and his wife Kelli of Whinchenden, Mass., Paul Bator and Dawn Marie Nacke of Greenville, N.H., and Shawn Bator and his wife, Mandy, of New Ipswich, N.H.; two sisters, Shirley Papas and her husband Dominic of Adams, and Eileen Kerns and her husband Kenneth of Swanee, Ga.; one brother, Bernard Bator and his wife, Irene, of Cheshire; his sister-in-law, Rita Bator, of North Adams; 13 grandchildren; and also his godmother, Florence Boyle, of Pittsfield.
He was predeceased by one brother, Henry Bator Jr.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Garry J. Bator Sr. will take place Friday, October 5, 2012 at 9 a.m. from the TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Garry J. Bator Sr. Educational Fund for his grandchildren in care of the funeral home.
