Born on July 25, 1934, George was raised in Pittsfield, by his parents, Celia and Frank Procopio. He had a wonderful relationship with his only brother, Salvatore, who was fatally wounded in World War II.
His early career started in Pittsfield, in the Naval Ordinance Division at General Electric, where he met his wife Katherine (Nicola) Procopio. Together they enjoyed many happy years with family and close friends.
After the births of their two daughters the family moved to Burlington, Vt., where George was an engineer with IBM for over 25 years, retiring in 1992.
George was very active in the Burlington community and was passionate for life and helping others. He had a vast array of interests, was very vocal on politics and world events, and especially enjoyed working with his hands, whether it be tending to his garden, woodworking, or home projects, and he was an avid New York Yankees fan.
In his retirement, he volunteered his time with the IRS, preparing taxes for community members. He also volunteered his time at the hospital educating cardiac patients. George was very proud of his Italian heritage and was passionate about the foods and traditions within the culture. He was a faithful member of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church. George's kind and compassionate personality attracted many friends, all of whom he cherished through the years.
His true pride, passion, and devotion was his family. George enjoyed traveling with his wife and daughters and took great pride in their accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Katherine, their daughter Marcia Procopio, MD, and her husband, Athos Rassias, MD, and their sons Nicholas and Aris, of Hanover, N.H.; and their daughter Sandra (Procopio) Gavris, and her husband George Gavris, and their twins Andreas and Alessandra of Weston, Mass.
